The Creative Multimedia Department of Multimedia Development Corporation (MDeC) is organizing a animation pitching competition. In this competition, companies or individuals will have to pitch their idea, pre-production of their animated characters, information of the story and eventual background.
OBJECTIVE:
• To use this as a showcase of Malaysia talent in the content creation industries that can be showcased or marketed globally. • To encourage and nurture new talents in turning their Ideas into reality. • To attract animation content developers to come out with greater ideas and stories. Professional: 3 winners from this category will be awarded RM 50,000 grant each,
Independent: 3 winners from this category will be awarded RM 40,000 grant each
to support their trailer or pilot episode.
Submission of proposals will be open until 28 June 2007. MDeC will be organizing workshops in the month of April, May and June 2007 for the benefit of interested participants. These workshops will help them to have a better understanding of the requirements needed to develop a trailer / pilot episode within the allocated budget. These workshops will also help participants to come up with strong proposals for the eventual pitch.
1. HOW DO I REGISTER?
This competition is only open to Malaysian companies, SME’s, individuals and graduated students only. Only one entry per company / team. Grant Winners of MSC Malaysia Animation Competition 2006 are not eligible to participate in this competition.

2. CATEGORIES
a. PROFESSIONAL –
i. companies / individuals with 2 years or more experience in the mobile content industry and
ii. have produced animated series / movie and
iii. works have been commercialized
b. INDEPENDENT –
i. companies / individuals with less than 2 years experience in the animation industry
* Please note that television commercials, station ID’s, and short animation works are NOT considered as animated series.
3. FORMAT OF THE PROPOSAL:
i.Language: English, or if not in English shall include an English translation as attachment

• Has not been otherwise grant aided • Has not been pre-purchased by any developers, publishers. • Is not part of a school project
4. REQUIREMENT:
i.Proposal submission:
a. A soft copy of the proposal in .doc format. PDF format will not be accepted
b. A soft copy of the Application Form
c. A printed copy of the proposal in A4, portrait format with comb bind.
d. A printed copy of the Application Form must be separated from the bind proposal. Attach the form to the proposal with paper clip.
* (Failure to comply with any of the above requirements will result in automatic disqualification.)
5. IP RIGHTS
• Violation of copyright is prohibited. The company or individuals hereby declare and represent to MDC that the work is original and that no part and portion of the work is an infringement or violation of any IP or any propriety rights of any third party. Failure to do so will result in automatic disqualification.
• The IP Rights in the works shall vest with the company / individuals.
• MDeC reserved the rights to showcase the trailer / pilot episode and the information for promotion.6. JUDGING PROCESS
• A panel of 4 judges from the industry, to be selected by MDeC including representative from MDeC, will review all submissions received.
• After the closing date, the judging panel will choose 6 best submitted entries from the professional category, 6 best submitted entries from the independent category for the pitching. Thereafter, 3 winners from each category will be chosen and automatically eligible for the grant.
7. MONITORING AND MENTORING PROCESS
• The winners will sign an agreement with MDeC to ensure that the parties (MDeC and grant receiver) agree with the requirements of this project.
• All grant winners are required to complete their mobile interactive content within 6 months from the signing of agreement
• Grant winners are invited to use the “CADC Lab” facilities for their production.
• Grant winners are required to submit a progress report as per agreement to MDeC.
8. PITCHING DAY
• Each company / individual will have to submit their presentation/pitching material 1 week before the pitching day.
• During the pitching day, each company / individual will have to test their presentation / pitching materials an hour before the presentation starts.
• Laptop and LCD Projector will be provided.
• Each company / individual will be given 5 minutes to pitch their idea, main character and concept, business module, schedule & budget, and commercialization of their animation and another 5 minutes for Q&A.
• Presentation aids and styles are open to the creativity of each company / individual.
9. CONTEST ENTRIES WILL BE JUDGED BASED ON THE FOLLOWING CRITERIA:
i. Business plan & competitive analysis ii. Development schedule & budget iii. Main Character Design and Concept iv. Commercialization v. Pitching day presentation aids and styles 10. AWARDS
